Trophy Elk
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
In September 1952, Charlie Kroll was tenting on the Murphy Ranch, some 70
miles from Lander, with Fred Bear, Dr. Judd Grindell from
Wisconsin, Nubby Pate and Bob Morley from California, Ken Knickerbocker,
Illinois, and Ed Henkel and Dale Underhill from Michigan. Fred and three
more of the party each bagged an antelope.
From the Lander hunt they proceeded to Hoback country for a pack-string
elk hunt with Lon Imeson. It was an unusually dry and warm fall in the
mountains, which made hunting difficult. Near the end of the hunt, only
one elk had been taken, a 5-point bull by Charlie.
The video you're about to watch is a segment from the Fred Bear movie
"Trophy Elk" featuring Chuck Kroll.
